Description of the site

This spot is one of the best we found at Corsica. It is an easy to find but small beach, with a small parking, but no facilities at all. The spot is North of the village of Sagone, at the foot of the tower of Sagone.

Picture on the left:
Sagone itself offers a famous large sandy beach. It is several km/miles long and has a lot of facilities. You can also find a scuba diving school at the beach. Of course this beach does not offer good snorkeling conditions, but it's good for swimming and windsurfing.
The south end of the long beach seems to have good snorkeling conditions, but we did not explore that part.

Google maps offers a resonable view on the small beach.
For Google Earth users: our provider Tele2 is not willing to change the MIME-settings of the server, so the server does not support placemark files. Therefor we supply two alternatives:
- save placemark file as *.kmz file (so not as zip) and duouble click it from your explorer, or
- cut and paste the coordinates into the 'fly to' box of Google Earth: 42 06 34.35 N 8 41 06.09 E (this is the most precize way to view the spot anyway!)

Snorkeling character:

Apart from the limited protection against south west winds, the spot is one of the best to get to. It has a rocky cost at both sides of the small beach.
Due to the small amount of sand, the water is very clear indeed. The spot in not in a real bay, but almost at 'open sea'. Perhaps that is the reason why even a tuna (!) was spotted during the day we were there.
A colleague snorkeler (Jean Jacques le Bail, lebail.jj at tele2.fr) reported a cave just north from the beach. The cave is not to deep, so reachable for snorkelers, and light enough to see some details.
Some 75 m from the coast, the water suddenly gets very deep, noticeable from the beach from the sudden dark colour of the water. This place seems a good scuba diving spot. Both days we were here the diving school of Sagone, the diving school sailed to this place for their lessons/practice.

Travel suggestions

This spot is very easy to reach. The beach is right beside the main road from Sagone. Comming from Sagone, drive North West until the curve in the road (D81) at the foot of the old tower. Half way through this curve you will find a small parking at the sea side of the road.
